How To Create CI Relationship In ServiceNow?

A configuration item is a fundamental unit of ServiceNow CMDB and relationship between CI’s is the heart of CMDB. It is one of the most significant indicator of a healthy and adequate CMDB.

In this article we understand how to create relationships between two or more CI’s in simple and correct way.

I have added the video tutorial at the bottom in case of any further assistance.

Steps To Create CI Relationship

  • Go to Configuration Item [cmdb_ci] table and open the CI you want to create relationship
  • Scroll down and click on the Plus(+) sigh top right to the relationship tab
  • Now selection the relationship type from the “Suggested relationship types
  • Use Filters to find the other CI you want to relate
  • Scroll down and select the Configuration Items you want to relate
  • Scroll down and click the plus(+) sign in the Relationships tab, this will add the relationship in the existing relationships
  • Now click on Save button.
  • You receive the message “Relationship added successfully”.
